1. Agreement to these terms
By installing or using Scam SafeGuard, you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. The service is operated by SCAM SAFEGUARD PTY LTD (ABN 51 698 899 795), an independent developer based in Australia.
2. What Scam SafeGuard is
Scam SafeGuard is a browser extension and supporting service that checks web addresses and messages for signs of scams and phishing, and warns you about risky sites. It uses threat databases, domain checks, and AI-assisted analysis to assess risk in real time.
3. What this service does NOT do
To set clear expectations, Scam SafeGuard does not:
- Guarantee to detect or block every scam, phishing site, or malicious link. No detection tool can.
- Recover money, reverse payments, or compensate you for losses caused by a scam (your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, described below, are unaffected by this statement).
- Replace your own judgement, your bank’s fraud controls, antivirus software, or other security measures.
- Read, store, or transmit the contents of your emails or messages. It checks the web addresses (links) within them — see our Privacy Policy.
- Monitor activity outside the browser, or protect devices or browsers where it is not installed.
It is one layer of protection, designed to warn you about many known and suspected scam sites — not a guarantee of safety.
4. Important: what we can and can't promise
Scams change constantly, and no security tool — ours or anyone else's — can detect 100% of threats. Scam SafeGuard is one layer of protection, not a guarantee of safety. You remain responsible for your own decisions online, including whether to enter personal or financial information on any website.
You should not rely on Scam SafeGuard as your only safeguard. Keep using good judgement, keep your devices and software up to date, and treat unexpected requests for money or personal details with caution — even if we haven't flagged them.
Nothing in these terms is intended to exclude rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other laws that cannot be excluded.
5. Who can use it
You must be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent where you live) to use Scam SafeGuard. By using it, you confirm you meet this requirement and that any information you give us is accurate.
6. Plans, billing, and renewals
Scam SafeGuard offers a free plan and paid plans (Premium and Family). Paid plans are billed through our payment provider, Paddle, who acts as the Merchant of Record for your purchase. Paddle's terms also apply to the payment itself.
- Prices are shown at checkout and may be in Australian dollars or your local currency, including any applicable taxes (such as GST or VAT).
- Auto-renewal is disclosed at checkout. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly) at the price shown, unless you cancel beforehand.
- We aim to send a reminder before each renewal for yearly plans, and you can cancel at any time in a couple of clicks — cancellation is at least as easy as signing up. No hidden auto-renew traps.
- We may change prices or these terms, but any change applies only to future billing periods. We will give you reasonable advance notice, and you may cancel without penalty before the change takes effect. We will not change the price of a period you have already paid for.
7. Cancellation and refunds
You can cancel your subscription at any time using the manage-subscription link in your Paddle receipt, or by contacting us. When you cancel, you'll keep access until the end of your current billing period.
We offer a voluntary full refund within 30 days of your purchase. To request one, contact us at support@scamsafeguard.com. Refunds are processed through Paddle. This voluntary refund is in addition to, and does not limit, your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a refund or compensation for a major failure and for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. Our voluntary 30-day refund is in addition to these rights.
8. Acceptable use
When using Scam SafeGuard, you agree not to:
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose or to break any applicable law
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, attack, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the service or its systems
- Use automated means to access the service beyond normal personal use, or to exceed fair-use limits
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the service without our written permission
- Misuse the service to harm others or interfere with their use of it
9. Our intellectual property
Scam SafeGuard, including its software, branding, and content, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the service for its intended purpose. You don't acquire any ownership rights by using it.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Scam SafeGuard is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will detect or prevent all scams or threats.
Some jurisdictions, including under the Australian Consumer Law, imply guarantees that cannot be excluded. Where that applies, our liability is limited as set out below, and nothing here excludes those non-excludable rights.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service — including any loss resulting from a scam or threat we did not detect.
Our services come with consumer guarantees that cannot be excluded, restricted or modified under the Australian Consumer Law and other applicable laws. Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any such right or guarantee. To the extent permitted by law, and subject to those non-excludable rights, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to re-supplying the service or refunding the fees you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim — except that this cap does not apply to any liability that cannot be limited under the Australian Consumer Law (including liability for reasonably foreseeable loss arising from a failure of a consumer guarantee).
12. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to reimburse us for reasonable, direct losses and costs we suffer that are caused by your unlawful misuse of the service or your deliberate breach of these terms. This does not apply to losses caused by our own conduct, and it does not limit your non-excludable rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in this clause makes you responsible for our legal costs beyond what a court would award.
13. Suspension and termination
You can stop using Scam SafeGuard, cancel a paid plan, and uninstall it at any time, for any reason. We may suspend or end your access only for a defined, reasonable cause — for example, a serious or repeated breach of these terms, unlawful misuse of the service, non-payment, or where we are required to for security or legal reasons — and, where practical, we will give you notice and a chance to fix the problem first. If we suspend or end a paid plan other than for your breach or unlawful misuse, we will refund the unused portion of what you have paid.
14. Governing law and your local rights
These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and you and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that state. Nothing in this clause limits any mandatory consumer-protection or privacy rights you have under the laws of the country or region where you live (for example, the Australian Consumer Law, the EU/UK GDPR, the UK Consumer Rights Act, or US state consumer laws), which continue to apply. If you use the service from outside Australia, you are also responsible for complying with your local laws.
15. General
Assignment
You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent. We may transfer our rights and obligations (for example, if the business is sold), but only to someone who agrees to honour these Terms. If we do, and the transfer would materially disadvantage you, you may cancel and receive a refund of any unused portion you have paid.
Severability
If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. The unenforceable part will be read down or removed to the minimum extent necessary.
Force majeure
We are not responsible for failures or delays caused by events beyond our reasonable control (for example, outages of third-party networks, providers, or infrastructure). This does not affect your non-excludable rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
No third-party beneficiaries
These Terms are between you and us. They do not create rights for any other person.
No affiliation
Scam SafeGuard is independent. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any bank, telco, government agency, or any brand we may name as an example of a commonly impersonated organisation. We are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Google; we use Google’s Web Risk threat data as one data source.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you. Continuing to use Scam SafeGuard after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
