How it works

A warning before you click.

Most scam tools warn you after you've clicked. We check the link first and warn you before the page opens — so you get a chance to stop. No tool catches every scam, so always stay cautious.

The core idea

The difference one second makes

The moment between clicking a link and the page opening is where Scam SafeGuard works. We use that moment to check where the link really goes.

Without Scam SafeGuard

You click. The page opens. Then you find out it's a scam.

By the time a warning appears, you've already loaded the page — and potentially handed over your details.

With Scam SafeGuard

You click. We check. You get a warning if it looks dangerous.

When we detect a page as likely dangerous, we warn you before it loads — in plain English — so you can decide what to do next.

What we protect

Three ways we help keep you safe

Most of your protection happens automatically — you don't need to do anything. But you can also ask us to check any link you're not sure about.

Automatic — links on social media and in your email

Click a link on Facebook, Instagram, Gmail, Outlook, or WhatsApp Web and we check it before it opens. Known safe sites — your bank, AusPost, myGov — open instantly with no delay. Unfamiliar links get a quiet check first.

Nothing for you to do

Automatic — the background page checker

Even when you arrive at a page without clicking a link, Scam SafeGuard quietly checks it in the background. If it looks like a fake shop or a known scam site, you'll see a warning.

Nothing for you to do

On demand — check any link or message yourself

Right-click any link and choose “Scan Link with Scam SafeGuard” to check it before you open it. Got a suspicious text on your phone? Copy it, paste it into Scam SafeGuard on your computer, and we'll check every link inside it.

Use when you want to

Privacy by design

We check your links.
Not your correspondence.

Other browser security tools ask for full access to your inbox. We don't. Scam SafeGuard's email feature sees only the web address a link points to — not your emails, your messages, who sent them, the subject line, or what the message contains.

Think of it this way: we see the address written on the envelope. We never see what's inside.

This is how the email feature is designed to work.

Under the hood

What checks every link

Every link goes through several checks in sequence, taking less than a second for most sites.

Google's threat database

Checks links against Google's Web Risk feed, a commercial threat database of known dangerous sites.

Global scam blocklists

Public scam blocklists, refreshed regularly as new scam sites appear.

Pattern detection

For harder cases, we analyse the site's behaviour and patterns — a brand-new domain that looks like a bank, a fake shop set up last week, a copycat login page.

Built to protect Australians

Tuned for the scams Australians actually see

Generic tools miss the local impersonations. We know them by name.

Fake myGov Fake Australia Post Fake Linkt toll notice Fake ATO refund Fake Centrelink Fake bank alert Fake Woolworths Rewards Fake Medicare

We watch for fake versions of these brands, so we can flag a lookalike even when it hasn't been reported anywhere yet.

And when a link sits in the grey area — not clearly safe, not clearly dangerous — we use AI for trickier scams.

For families

Protecting a parent? There's a feature for that.

Install Scam SafeGuard on a parent's laptop in 60 seconds. It runs in the background — they don't need to do anything to stay protected.

Caregiver Lock lets you protect the settings with a 4-digit PIN, so the protection settings can't be changed without the PIN — even if a scammer on the phone asks your parent to switch them off. See how to set it up →

With the Family plan, you get a weekly summary of what was checked and what was flagged — so you know their protection is working, without ever seeing their browsing history.

Ready to try it?

Free to install. No account needed. Protection starts as soon as you finish the 60-second setup.

Works anywhere desktop Chrome runs — Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chromebooks.
